Team Free Radicals does the AWAR - Page 4 After many miles of soggy ground, mudholes, and all the other wonders you can bike through in a river bottom, we reached Challenge 5 - "Tupelo Honey" (it replaced something called "Ride the Rail", which is what the passport listed) It's easy. Climb into the hole at the bottom of this hollow tree... |

Then out the hole at the top, and down the rope. There were decent hand and foot-holds in the tree, but they were again, slick from much travel. So was the outside, which is why I slid down instead of rappelling like Grace did.
We compensated by shoving each other at the very top to get that last couple of feet where no good footholds were left.
The volunteers at this stop were a riot. They were having as much fun as we were, and the epitome of good-humored Southern friendliness. If they're representative of the Hazlehurst area, you could live worse places.
Silliness at a food stop. We basically lived on Gatorade, trail mix, energy gel packs, and a couple of cans of Ensure. Pushing this hard this long, your body can't and won't digest "real" food. Oh, yeah... Visualize lots of big, hungry mosqitoes in this picture and most of the others.
